Buying a Dell (Part 1)

With the recent conclusion of PC Fair, I inevitably make a purchase of a Dell on their online offered. This is the first time I am buying a Dell machine and my first experience with them. Usually I just browse through their website to check on their pricing and spec. and etc but for the very first time I had to go through the real Dell experience.

What I feel and gone through wasn't easy. I felt the information was quite comprehensive but lack certain ease of use interface. Details for specification and etc are good but nevertheless, as I was studying their warranty options I find it a little bit confusing. I needed to refer to another site and needed a few mins to gasp what was it all about. Dellcare Plus, Dellcare Premier and etc..........and in each category there is additional 24/7 support, Dell on-site and etc which make the whole deal more confusing. Finally I understand what was most important/essential was their completecover package. With this cover, any parts breakdown, accident or etc parts would be replace without any charges. Others additional support is only secondary especially on the software support and etc.

After a few hours of going through their steps by steps ordered form, I finally manages to complete it without any hassle and major problem. What I like best about their site is the "Saved To Cart" options. I could just saved it temporarily under my email address and then retrieve it later to complete the purchase.

I only have difficulty with their service warranty issue and some other minor spec. which was not highlighted during the spec. confirmation and etc. Therefore, I needed to open another page on the product without going into https.

Overall the experience was a little bit stressful and not as fun and easy as 1-2-3 as I would like it to be. But considering the amount of spec. and detail a computer usually have I think they still deserve a pat on the back though not on full marks.

Besides the "Save To Cart" options, the 2nd best thing I like about them is their follow-up or ordered status view and info. It is just like FedEx or DHL where you could actually "tracked" the stages your ordered are going through. I place my ordered on the night of 09/12 but was only process on the next working day on the 10/12 and then billed on the 11/12. As of today I see that it is under "Work-In-Progress" category. However, the delivery date is tentatively set for next year.

I like the small detail showing the status and progress of the flow which makes everything so transparent and informative and can be easily read and interpreted. Thumbs up for them on this. I just hope the experience hereafter will be better. But most importantly of all the quality and reliability of the machine I ordered need to be above excellence. After all this is my first experience of using a Dell and if it is disappointing then I guess I will remember this throughout my whole life.

Izzi iBurst Wireless Broadband Service (Report 3)

Try dialing their customer service or support no. (Toll Free) 1800-88-8638 and tell me whether u can get through. I have been trying for more than an hour cause this afternoon I couldn't log on to the network at all. There was an error telling me unable to recognize user name and password and then domain error and etc. I left 2 messages on their voice message box and until now (way past midnight) I have not receive any reply or courtesy called at all. At least have some decency to informed your customer to let them know you are upgrading or something la. Just create an excuse to shut everybody up. Ain't that what company such as Izzinet Sdn Bhd are good at.

Pathetic and bloody bad company. Btw, that was my first and last phone-in support I
ever done. You can read lots of other complaint in the Low Yat forum under Broadband User feedback - Izzinet.

Btw, if you wanna really know where is their base station don't bother politely asking them where is it cause I have tried. I wanted to know where was the transmitter tower so that I can point my antennae to the correct direction for optimum performance but the support staff didn't want to tell me cause it's company secret . So I did a search on wikimapia and wola......its there opposite the Damansara Utama Police Station. Here try this link.

As for their own Izzi Wireless Broadband coverage map, its pathetic, unreliable and not accurate. Take a look for yourself. I think the company have their hands full already. Perhaps not enough money or don't want to invest anymore transmission tower unless hit some milestone in the numbers of subscription increase. I still think they are trying to squeeze the max no. of user into a single bandwidth. Optimum broadband transmission design, I believe.

I have read about it and heard about it but never in my widest dream had I gave a thought that this would had occur to me. As I was home early a couple of days ago I decided to take a walk around my neighborhood. Unfortunately, as I was walking towards the main road there was this weird looking typical mainland Chinese girl holding a large carrying bag shouting and kept calling me......hei, Mr......Mr.......(in mandarin it was shin shen).

Wifey had told me about her encountered and I have heard from many stories too. Some are con artiste and will try to borrow money from you or to lend your hand phone and etc. So its kind of taken me by surprise. I took a glance at her and continue my walk as if I didn't hear her shouting. I knew she was shouting and calling me but I just pretend I didn't know mandarin and kept my distance and walk off. Was I the easiest target she could find or I was just a random pick ? I am not sure about why all this mainland Chinese are giving every Chinese in MY a bad name.

Why can't they just find a legitimate work and do something righteous. I feel ashamed sometimes why all these Chinese are famous for being the smartest con men, syndicate and fraud and etc. All for the wrong reason.

Izzinet wireless broadband service had been getting from bad to worst. I have been trying to update my Ad-Ware SE definition update for ages and till today I have not been successful. When I try to download Ad-Ware 2007 which is approx. 20Mb, it wasn't successful at all. Every time without fail it just terminated by itself and unable to finish downloading it. I thought perhaps its just one of those days but then every night it is the same symptom. I gave up.

When I was using another comp at a different place using streamyx 512kbps, I could update my Ad-Ware SE without fail and watch youtube seamlessly. Can you imagine that ? You couldn't unless you have use dial-up connection before. So bloody slow and hopeless. I give up and am therefore had the last straw. Am going to terminate the service as soon as I settle all the tedious and rough part of it all. Need to know when is the cut-off date so that I can terminate the service and switch to streamyx. I understand that currently there is a promotion for 1Mbps package offer with free modem at RM77/mth.

I am also planning to get the Panasonic dual dect phones which is going on a promotion now. Its RM 188 I think though can't find it anywhere on the net at all. Have to go and search through the papers to confirm the offered.

By the way, for everybody's info, I couldn't't download Ad-Ware 2007 last night again and neither was I able to download some driver update for my mobo (motherboard). Those driver files and definition update was't huge at all but nevertheless I couldn't download at all. Its like I am surfing dial-up and all I can access was http. Either that or they are blocking whatever download that I am actually doing. As usual my connection speed was only approx. 150Kbps and hovering mostly around 20Kbps. Its so much worst than 3rd world country. I think we are under 5th world catergory though we have MSC and etc.

What seem White Might be Black !!!

Got to talk something about work today. I am not sure whether I am too clever or other people are getting more stupid. Recently when I was in a meeting with my boss and another vendor supplier, I had accidentally hear from the supplier that what used to be a cost down design had in fact turn out to be much more expensive.

Therefore the question that ran into my mind immediately was who's smart idea was it in the first place ? It was actually bravo Mr.Shorty..............the smart jack ass. Finally after many years some external party is telling us straight into our own face that what you are actually doing is a failure and a con job. I just give him a smirk look. How on earth did he manage to convince everybody..........to fool everybody to change into a design in the so called name of "costing down". Are those Japanese are so stupid or just didn't care at all ? By far and right, what I know about Japanese is that they are very diligent, smart and careful people. That was what my ex-bosses use to be. After many years of evolution, seem that the new Japanese that arrived and taking over are shrinking in brain size.

Obviously, there is no transparency, check and balances in the system at all. The whole system are a fraud and being manipulated by my bosses. Its like they have this mentality of......who care's............its company money and etc. However, they are very clever to portray and put on a different image of themselves with the right perspective in front of important bosses. However, if you are in the middle of the chain and understand the grassroots, you will know that most of the bosses are just another typical con man in the street. Only difference is they may dress much more smartly either with a tie or a sleek confidence look.

Luckily the Jap system are not so competitive and aggressive as Western company. Else many things would had change and jump out of the closet. By right, they should be some kind of internal or external auditing done for each dept to find out the effectiveness of individual system and practices. Perhaps if they do this then all the best practices could then be use as a benchmark for the rest of the company as a shining example. Is this too difficult ? Come to think of it, why does finance dept have yearly auditing while other dept aren't required ? Just because finance are dealing with money doesn't mean other dept aren't important and have no gap for malpractices to happen.

Right in front of my eyes malpractices and nepotism are happening daily. Let me list of the examples here

1. We have ISM (Information Security Management) policy stipulating the policy and method for the control and procurement of computers and notebook. However, my bosses never follow them and always try to bypass this policy and system blatantly. His modus operandi usually is to buy some testing equipment and at the same time ask the supplier to include the notebooks price into the quotation but not written on the invoice. Hence, there is no record or traceability for the company side. No fixed asset bar code and hence no restriction and compliance to company wide policy.

2. Receiving kick back from supplier in the form of monetary, gifts and expensive dinner. The Jap are aware of this and are usually in cohort with their immediate subordinate. They are not so open and obvious and usually indirectly operate through a middle man to handle all the dealing and wealing. In this case the local immediate subordinate. Once I even got to know about this supplier giving out a very expensive hamper to one of my bosses. We are in no position to do anything about it. It is the Jap own doing and they are encouraging it likewise. Else how can you explain my boss who is a "good for nothing" (stupid to put it rudely.....not on purpose but the truth) can rise to become a manager when he doesn't know how to manage at all. I will come to explain on this later.

3. Blatant mis-management and treating the whole company as his own coffee shop company. By right, I am working in a world renown company in the world. The top 3 Jap MNC's in the world. Tell me is this world renowned when Mr.Shorty or my boss can decide on his own whim and fancy to put not 3 or 4 company product in his own house. My god, if you really keep track of his wrongdoing record then you will know that he is putting each product even in his toilet. There is no system and they are doing some underground dealing in cohort with some top management to take this product home in the name of "field test". Nobody is highlighting this because everybody have a high tolerance level and in addition they are doing all this under hush hush condition. Unannounced and nobody knows about it unless the right people. My god, don't be surprise if they tell you that they have lose the record..........if there is one in the first place.

4. Openly tolerating some subordinate breaking of basic company rules. There's this engineer who is always in his good books because he knows where to rub him to make him happy. However, this engineer is always clocking horribly enormous over time. Obscene in my own standard. I don't care if you rot in office after working hours just to wait for the clock to tick away but then asking collaborator to assist him in slotting out is taking the situation too far off. The boss is aware of it but taking and choosing a blind eye over it.

5. There's this technician who assist my boss in his testing. On many occasion he tells me that some of the items he tested had fail and therefore he gave the result to my boss. However, after this initial test, there are no re-testing or evaluation of the same item again being done by this technician. What surprised him most was the fact that the item is now officially approved. So how can a fail item become an approved item without any further testing. I still remember the Mitsubishi Motor saga where some engineers falsifying test reports and data just to passed it off. Is this just a replicate or a copy cat of the same pattern happening with all Jap MNC's ? You judge yourself but I know what is truly happening and I believe its all a culture thing. A copy cat culture but with little bit of standard.

6. I was talking with wifey about her company HR manager. She handles everything in the office and hence knows many supplier. Hence, every year on her birthday, some supplier would present her a cake, a greeting card and etc. She shares it all with everyone of them and would open up her hamper for everyone to share. I seldom hear of this happening in my workplace. Everything is kept hush hush behind or underneath some rock. All the top management at the top are practicing it but are afraid to let anybody know about it. The people here have inferiority complex. I can see all this from their Chinese educated background. Everybody here have some kind of snake under the hat. Afraid of each other and worry someone would pull a lion instead of a snake from the hat.

7. This Shorty unknowing to many people are very cunning and slimy. With his own influence and con skill he manages to switch from a random or unknown customer to his own brother as the beneficiary of field testing customer. Hence, all of us were stun and surprised. What kind of low down scum would do this kind of thing. There is no system, no rules, no fairness, no transparency and no auditing. Its kind of like no man land. You can actually do whatever you like and pretend to be toeing the line.

8. Going out of company premises as frequently as you like and without anybody knowing about it. By the book, we all have to get a gate pass to be able to leave the premises. However, some have use the hand sign and just wave at the security guard or drive a imported car brand and hence everything is fine. Some like my bosses, signed his own gate passes and go out of company premises without anybody knowing. Isn't all this mis-management and mis-use of power and authority ? To add salt to wound the top management are actually closing one eye on it !!!

This complain letter is getting out of hand and too long already. To sum it all up, there are just too many short coming and mis-appropriation, mis-use of power and mis-management going on in what seem to be an ideal and perfect world. Ideas for life ??

My personal transport died down on me just the other day. I started the car an hour before that and it was all fine. However, when I was about to leave, the starter wouldn't even turn on at all. I told myself, I must had use up the last juice on the battery.

Luckily I was still in the office and hence I call up a few guys to help me. After a few nudge and pushes, it finally roar into life. The technique was to turn "ON" permanently the key. Engaged the gear into 2nd level and then call out loud for everyone to push. After moving for a wee bit distance, let go of the clutch slowly and voila...............the lion came roaring again.

The next day I went to the spare parts shop to get a replacement. Seem that the cost had sky rocketed exponentially. What use to cost me RM 140 for a maintenance free batt, now would set me back approx RM 180. What !!! I shouted, did I hear it correctly. Those businesses are taking all this for granted and trying to make more I presume.

Did I hear or read somewhere that the inflation rate in MY is under control and consider negligible ? Obviously the real data and the actual situation are differing greatly. Perhaps those statistician didn't know how to count in the first place. Pathetic..................and sad the state of all average Malaysians are in right now.

By the way, did you know that the price of old batteries had jumped from RM 5 to approx. RM 20-30. I counted that if I would have to steal, scavenge or buy at least 10pcs of old batteries a day then I would have RM 300 per day. After all 10 batteries per day isn't many if you are really hard working and know where to find. So in approx. a month time I would had earn myself a tidy sum of RM 6000 for 20 days work. 20 days work of being an old newspaper/batteries scavenger can help me earn what a fresh graduate can't earn in his/her first 5 years of work.

Give it a thought !! Why study so hard and being scuffle around when you can earn a tidy sum just by being lazy, relax and don't know much.

There is this cute little girl that I like very much. She is so sweet looking and adorable that I just love to cuddle or carry her. However, she 's not my kid and I worry people might wrongly misconstrued my intention and accuse of me of being a paedophile. I am not sure how her parents would see this from their point of view either.

I told wifey about it and she just brush it off and assume I am interested in a girl stork. I am aware of being biases and etc and am therefore very careful with what I do. Nevertheless, I just find her adorable and cute and everytime I think about it I just want to carry her. I feel she's a bit deprive and oppress. Perhaps that explain why I like her so much compare to her elder sister who is just 2 yrs older.

I just have the click with kids that are small, cute and adorable. Perhaps their innocent look and naivety attract me a lot. I hate her sister. She's much more arrogant, nosy and prima donna. This girl previously was deprive of their parents attention because she was mostly taken care of my a indon maid. She was bath, feed, play and if I am not mistaken slept together with the maid. I find the parents pathetic and biased. I can't say or totally blame them for we are all not perfect human being and I have my share of biases and experience dealing with my own kids.

On many occasion, I too felt I wasn't being myself and perhaps putting too much pressure and emotional stress on my elder one. Well, that is another stories all together.

I am still trying to figure out how to put to words my feeling for the little cute girl. Objectively, she wasn't very pretty or attractive and etc.............something which many kids from a rich and average family are. Subjectively, she wasn't at all outstanding nor smart and clever like most kids will be trying to portray.

To sum it all up, I just "CLICK" with her.
