The Day The Earth Stood Still

I only manage to catch this movie last week. The starting part and the movie was ok and could hold itself right up until the middle where the robot was transferred to an underground silo. From there onwards it was all downhill. The ending was a little bit anti-climax. I think I watched the old version but only a small recollection and fade memory of it. I love the original show….the black and white version.

Anyway, Klaatu was ok but I just don't like the abrupt ending. There were no real emotions and a serious script to it. I was expecting some complex character and serious storyline but…..hey no. There was none and to me it seems to be an abrupt and quick ending by the director obviously to cut short the schedule and cost.

So my rating is 4/10 only.

A typical Sun afternoon

I would like to highlight here what I experience that other day while I was shopping in a hypermarket. I encounter a queue jumper. Well, it wasn't exactly queue cause there was no queue at all. Wifey and I had a trolley and when we queue to make payment at our regular hypermarket store…..we usually keep a distance of 1 body person from the trolley to the person in front of us. We don't like how some shoppers usually push the trolley almost touching to the person in front of them. It just wasn't our way. We are kind of like gentlemen, well breed species…….:).

Anyway on that day there wasn't any crowd at all. Perhaps it was on a Sun afternoon and also middle of the month (beginning of the month would be the usual crowd after salary pay day). Therefore on that particular counter we were queuing there was just this shopper in front of us who was just in the process of making payment. There was another shopper in the middle of making payment on the counter to our left. I was chatting with wifey and then my kids was making noises wanting to go to the loo. All of a sudden this old lady (quite immaculate with her hand wavering a credit card which I presume to be platinum) politely said to me "excuse me". She was pushing a trolley of her own and exactly 90º against my trolley. I thought ….ohh…..she just want to go across…..but I was a bit puzzle cause there was plenty of space right behind us. Usually people just push the trolley on the pathway at the back but this lady was crossing the pathway right in front of the counter.

Nevertheless, I didn't suspect anything cause I assume she was going to the counter to the left. Therefore I pull back my trolley to give her way to cross right in front of me. To my astonishment she put her trolley right there in front of mine. For a few seconds there I was still hoping she's slow and was going to the next counter. It didn't happen. So I politely ask her….Auntie, may I know where do you want to go ? She told me she want to make payment and hence queuing for the counter. I was stun and speechless for a second there. After gaining composure I again politely told her, Mdm/Auntie………I am also queuing for the counter.

She gave me an innocent look and ….Ohhhh….sorry and proceeded to go to the counter on my left. There wasn't any hu ha……anything like that. It was just kind of not right and normal. The scenario was like a spoof or something. After she had gone to the next counter, I left with my kids to the loo. Later after coming back to the counter, wifey was just making payment. Again to my surprised, the old lady now was queuing behind my wife.

I felt weird with her. She was like something weird from another planets or something. You get the feeling you are interacting with an abnormal person…..an alien. Another point of weirdness was she was putting her stuff onto my groceries on the conveyer belt until the cashier was confuse and had to ask which one is whose one.  I just let it be and told the cashier …… one at a time. After everything was done and all out groceries was put into the trolley, I saw that this old lady had another lady friend. She was pushing her own trolley cart and was meeting her up. Both of them were talking to each other about lunch…..MacD ….with my family and I in the middle between both of them. It was strange. The whole episode was like in twilight zone or something.

My guess is…she's probably out of town or something. However, the fact was she was holding a platinum credit card and her immaculate dressing tells me she's perhaps having dementia or something like that. Luckily it wasn't a loose cannon or some crazy auntie. I wouldn't know how to deal with that. That was a typical Sun afternoon for me. Phew……….

Nissan Latio

A friend from SG came over to my house the other day. She was visiting me and I was surprise she drove a car. She told me ever since she got married she and husband need to travel quite frequently back home and thus having a car is very important. Anyway, what I wanted to highlight was the car. She bought this Nissan Latio…I think it was full spec because I could see leather seating etc on it. What capture my attention was the keyless entry thing. There was a reader (a small sensor bar) near the door knob that she touches with her finger and ….voila…the car door open.

Its looks cool and techie. A bit convenient for those who are always hand full and only have a finger to spare. I haven't check the spec. over here in MY yet. I guess its always the cost and the acceptability over here. There are more technology resistance driver here than over in SG.

I just read somewhere that Suzuki Swift in MY are having these "keyless" entry system too. In fact you don't even need a key to insert into the keyhole to start the car. Its all some sort of RFID and thumbprint identification. Cool.
